Will your next journey save a life?

NABB was officially formed in 2010 and is the umbrella body to which most regional blood bike group's belong. NABB has three simple objectives:

  • To act as a forum for the benefit of all member Blood Bike Groups
  • To assist in the formation of new groups.
  • To raise awareness, funds and volunteers for the benefit all the member groups.

A regional Blood Bike group, e.g. Severn Freewheelers who are a member of NABB and whose role is to:

Provide a free, out of hours medical essentials courier service, using emergency response vehicles, between NHS facilities.

Most groups start at 19:00 and finish at 07:00 weekdays and operate 24 hours at the weekend and public holidays transporting blood, tissue samples, frozen human milk, pathology samples, patient notes etc. If it fits on a motorcycle we’ll deliver it. Their riders all carry an approved Advanced Riding qualification and are trained in emergency response and handling of their cargo.

Severn Freewheelers make around 350 calls per month, covering 150k miles per annum on emergency response BMW R1200RT’s.

Volunteers consist of riders, despatchers and helpers – all much needed to run their vital service.

Ask yourself this:

If I was in a bike crash at 2:00am in the morning, who would I rather transported my life saving blood?

The local taxi?

Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes – one day you might need us.
